Today we’ll talk about First Conditional.

Now what is First Conditional? Let’s take a look at this sentence.
If we buy tickets, we will go to a concert.

‘Conditional’ походить від слова ‘condition’, тобто умова. Речення з First Conditional, розповідають, що може статися, якщо хтось вчинить так чи інакше. Курсы английского на Позняках, Осокорках

Let’s have a closer look.
The sentence ‘If we buy tickets, we will go to a concert.’ consists of two parts or two ‘clauses’.
The first part  – If we buy tickets – is a condition. Перша частина речення містить умову.
The second part – we will go to a concert – is a result. Друга частина вказує на результат.

Now let’s look at the meaning of the First Conditional construction.
Are we sure that we will go to a concert? Well, there’s a 90% chance that we will. If we buy those tickets, of course.

First Conditional вживається тоді, коли ми майже впевнені в тому, як все буде.

We shall have some more examples.
If we hurry, we will get on the bus.– Якщо ми поспішимо, то сядемо на автобус.
If she studies hard, she will pass the exams.– Якщо вона сумлінно вчитиметься, вона складе іспит.
Ifyoudon’tsetthealarm, youwilloversleepandbelateforwork. – Якщо ти не наведеш будильник, то проспиш і спізнишся на роботу.

В першій частині речення Conditional – If we buy tickets or If she studies hard – we use If + Present Simple.

Now let’s put these sentences together once again.
If we buy tickets, we will go to a concert.
If she studies hard, she will pass the exams.

Частини речення First Conditional можна міняти місцями.
We will go to a concert if we buy tickets.
She will pass the exam if she studies hard.
Проте зверніть увагу, що на письмі якщо частина з If  як от If we buy ticketsпишеться першою, після неї обов’язково потрібно поставити кому. Та, якщо речення починається з частини без If, як наприклад Wewillgotoaconcert, кома не потрібна.

Let’s also have some examples with negative.
We won’t (will not) go on a picnic if it rains.
If he doesn’t hurry, we will be late.

Attention! Avoid common mistakes!
Найрозповсюдженішою помилкою серед новачків є вліпити will в частину речення з If. Зверніть увагу як не можна робити!
If I will save money, I will buy that expensive camera.

It’s a mistake to say If I will save money – If + Present Simple, remember?
The correct way would be:
If I save money, I will buy that expensive camera.

Давайте поглянемо на можливі варіанти побудови First Conditional.

• If you’re not sure about the result. Якщо ви не надто впевнені в результаті.
  For example: I might buy you a toy if you behave nicely! (Не надто переконливо, правда?)

  В такому випадку міняємо will на might.
  I haven’t got much money. But if you agree to pay with me, we might afford to go on a holiday together.

• If you are 100% sure something will happen.

  Якщо ви впевнені у майбутньому на всі сто (і таке буває).
  When I graduate from university, I will travel around the world.
  They will live in London when they are married.

Now is the time for a little pronunciation tip. In the First Conditional sentence will can be shortened to ‘ll.

If I save money, I will buy that expensive camera.
or
If I save money, I’ll buy that expensive camera.

And now how about a little quiz.
Is the sentence correct?
If they go to the countryside next weekend, we will join them.
The sentence is correct!
How about this one?
We will go to the beach if it will be sunny.
